4-pointed banner

Project Type

Painting

Date

2012 onwards

Location

Sao Paulo - Rio de Janeiro - Niterói

This series of works are paintings on paper.

Paper from the medicine boxes that served me and guaranteed my autonomy. When opened, the medicine boxes take the shape of a cross.

That's why I call them 4-pointed banners. They are symbols of an introspective journey in search of self-knowledge and purging.

These banners delimit borders and landmarks of this very particular environment that I investigate. The space of the inhabitant of the body, the one who relates to his own fantasies, processes, fears, expectations and search for coherence. Flags loaded with emblems and insignias that lend themselves to giving image and ambiance to personal secrets, dramas and traumas that often cannot be translated in other ways.

The mood is melancholic, the figures are uncommitted to materiality, misaligned in time, a latent content. Emanations that mix, resignifying in a seam of layers until finding a final figure.

Roberto Ulhoa, 1981, visual artist.
